Life of a Corporate Flight Attendant

Am I flying high in the sky? Or is it a dream?  That was my first thought when I boarded a Mumbai to Toronto flight as a corporate flight attendant on the very first day of my job.  It still gives me goosebumps when I think about that day.

But the journey as a corporate flight attendant is not always a bed of roses. It is hard and sometimes really exhausting but also rewarding. You need to be on call 24*7. But this is the path I have chosen with love and lots of dreams so it does not matter if I am away from my dear family for a little bit longer.

People have a notion that we, flight attendants, just serve food and drinks; they are so wrong. We Corporate Flight Attendants,  especially are also part-time nanny, Personal Assistant, Chef, trying to be a wonderful chef by crafting a sandwich and last but not least a butler.

My day starts when the operations department sends me information about my scheduled flights, sometimes the destination is “Paris”, the most romantic city in the world. You expect my reaction after hearing the destination would be “WOW”, but NO, I need to think about the total number of passengers, Flight time, catering services before I could think about the “Eiffel Tower”.

I even visit local markets in search of fresh products to ensure that the meal service is great onboard and at the same time budget-friendly.

Once boarding the flight I make sure the cabin is ready to welcome the passengers. I clean, store the foods, set a nice welcome table with fresh flowers matching the passenger’s preference to make them smile.

I start my service with a broad smile after boarding. I try my level best to make the passengers feel comfortable as much as possible. I serve food which is more like a 5-star restaurant meal, sometimes Roasted Turkey Breast with sundried Tomatoes or Lobsters or Crabs maybe with a lip-smacking dessert-like Hot Brownie with Vanilla Ice-cream and of course accompanied with a nice matching wine. Not only do I need to know how to serve but also I need to possess the skills to prepare and properly plate the items for serving. When the passenger deplanes the aircraft with a smile and a big Thank You I feel happy that I have done my work properly.

Then again I need to make the cabin ready and shiny for the next flight back to my dear motherland. I again clean and restock the cabin. After reaching back I spend some time chit-chatting and debriefing with my crew. I leave for my home, to where I belong, to my dear husband and my lovely little furry friend, my pet cat Tulo. Reaching home I comfortably lie on the couch and send the feedback email about my flight to the company. Then closing my eyes I wonder what would be the next Destination. Will it be New York? Or will it be London? and I am lost in my dreams.
