How my life changed as an Air Hostess after Flying International

I always dreamt of becoming an air hostess and soar high in the sky. The elegance and glamour associated with the Aviation Industry always attracted me so after completing my higher secondary I enrolled myself at one of the best Aviation Colleges in Kolkata, JT Aviation college to pursue my dream course.

I completed my course and got a placement at a budget-friendly domestic airline. But I always yearned for more success so after gaining some experience as a domestic flight attendant I applied for international airlines and luckily I got selected and I was at the top of the world with joy. It was a dream come true moment for me. 3 years have already passed being an international air hostess. It still gives me joy thinking about the first day at my job. My first international destination was Toronto, Canada. I still remember we stopped there for a whole day and I was so excited I went to a shopping mall straight from the airport after my duty hours because the woman loves shopping and Chocolates too.

But flying International does not mean that your path is always covered with roses. It’s a mixed experience. Sometimes, I have to be away from my dear family for 6-7 days due to my flight schedule. I feel exhausted but still have to put a broad smile on my face while welcoming the passengers on board, serving drinks and food, trying my level best to make them have a comfortable and safe flight experience. Some passengers are very hard to deal with. Sometimes they shout and scream. Dealing with them in a calm and composed manner and with a broad smile is not easy. But, the smile and Thank you of the passengers after safe landing is the thing which matters the most. This is the job I love, being with people, serving people.

I earn more flying internationally and can explore some very beautiful cities and of course shopping malls when there is a 24 or 48 hours layover, but again I don’t get many day-offs as previously I used to do and don’t have control over my schedules. Told you, it’s a mixed feeling or experience.

My love for Chipotle Chicken Sandwich, Apple Danish, and croissant have doubled, and also my love for the Swiss chocolates.  I make sure I buy a big bar of “Toblerone”, one of my favorite Swiss chocolates, from an airport duty-free whenever I am flying. And to share a secret with all the girls reading this I have become obsessed with “MAC Lipsticks” especially the color RUBY WOO and I have quite a collection of them now.

I am a Tea Lover but since I started flying International  I have turned into a coffee lover. I drink an unnecessary amount of coffee nowadays. While flying you cross several time zones so you never know what time of the day or night it is,  so drinking coffee anytime is not a problem anymore.

Flying International means you might face more “turbulence” issues while flying. That’s the thing I loathe the most. I know I am very well trained to deal with such issues and if some emergency crops up suddenly but after all,l I am a human being. I feel nervous while facing turbulence but in front of passengers I need to act brave and ensure that it’s nothing and will pass soon. I have learned to hide my fears in these 3 years of flying internationally.

This is my life now flying between time zones, being with people, serving them, taking care of them, drinking coffee, exploring new cities, getting less time to be with family especially my furry cat friend, feeling exhausted like hell but this is the life I love and never going to trade with any other position.
