Government Aviation Colleges in India

Aviation in a broader sense is associated with the art of design, development, production, operation, and use of Aircraft. Nowadays, the Aviation Industry is gaining a lot of popularity globally due to lucrative salaries and its glamour. It also provides you with the opportunity to start your career at a very young age. Aviation covers a range of courses from cabin crew training to ticket management to ground staff and many more.  There are many public as well as private Aviation Colleges in India that offer full–time, part-time, distance –learning, and online mode of study. Here, in this blog I am going to discuss some Government-run Aviation Colleges in India including Kolkata, and the courses they offer:

 Aeronautical Training Institute Lucknow- This Government College established in 1991 offers three full-time courses:

Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering – 

Diploma in Avionics   and

Diploma in Helicopter and Power Plants

The duration of all these three courses is 3 years. Aspirants after completing their 10th class board exam can choose anyone according to their will. Candidates need to clear Joint Entrance Examination (Polytechnic) also known as JEECUP before going for the courses. The course fees annually are approximately 10.4k.

Air Force Technical College (AFTC) - Established in 1949 in Bangalore this college has the unique distinction of being the only one to train aspirants in Military Aviation Technology and associated fields. This college offers two courses:

Aeronautical Engineering (B.E)( Mechanical Engineering)

Aeronautical Engineering (B.E)(Electronics and Communication Engineering)

 The duration of both the courses is 48 weeks. The admission procedure consists of several steps. Interested candidates are required to take an Engineering Knowledge Test and those who qualify need to attend Personality Tests at Air Force Selection Boards at Dehradun, Mysore, or  Varanasi. The duration of this personality test is 5 days. Aspirants are selected according to their performance in the personality Tests.


 

Government Aviation Training Institute (GATI)-Established in 1946 in New Delhi it is one of the renowned government-run Aviation Colleges in India. The various courses it offers are as follows:

Commercial Pilot License – This 18-month duration course can be pursued after completing 12Th Board Exam with Science Stream.

Student Pilot License- It is a 6-month diploma course and to opt for these courses students need to complete their 10 Th standard examination.

Certificate Course in Flight Radio Telephone Operator's License This is a 6month long diploma course. Aspirants need to clear the 12th Board exam before selecting this course.

GATI Bhubaneswar also is one of the well-known Public Aviation Colleges in India where young aspirants can pursue aviation courses to turn their dreams into the reality of making it big in the Aviation Sector.

Last but not least, I would like to mention the name of JT Aviation College in Kolkata, a government-affiliated and one of the best Aviation Colleges in Kolkata with highly dedicated and diligent professors and support staff.  Established in 2013 the college also offers IATA authorized Courses that the interested candidates can pursue to globally establish them successfully in the Aviation sector. Some of the courses which this popular institution offers are 

Diploma in Aviation Hospitality and Management a one year course which requires completion of 10+2

BBA in Aviation Operations Students who have passed their higher secondary with 50% of marks in all subjects can apply for this 3-year degree course. Aspirants need to sit for an Entrance Examination before taking up this course.

Some IATA authorized Courses that JT Aviation offers are airline cabin crew training, passenger ground services, Airport Ramp services, and many more.
