Essential Online Learning Skills

During this ongoing global pandemic crisis, we are forced to stay home so schools, colleges, and offices have shifted to the virtual platform base to carry out their daily classes and work. Aviation colleges have also shifted to the Virtual Platform base to help students move forward with their respective courses without any issues.

Today, I am going to share some essential online learning skills students must possess to be a successful online learner:

Applications: First and foremost students need to have access to a desktop or a laptop for the virtual classes with a webcam and a reliable, high-speed internet connection and  must have social media accounts to communicate with the instructor and classmates.

Computer Skills: They need to have at least basic computer skills to function effectively in an online class. They will be communicating with their professors or instructors and classmates through video conferences, emails, WhatsApp or messenger chat groups, uploading assignments, preparing projects and presentations using PowerPoint, searching various topics on Google, Youtube videos, and many more. So they must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and last but not least about the Internet, how to search various topics on Google and other search engine platforms, how to send an email, chat, etc.

Web Search:  Students must know how to conduct searches on the Web about various topics. To be a successful online class learner it is necessary to make “Google” your best friend. So if you are pursuing Aviation Courses then you must know how to search for related topics.

Time Management:  Many students do part-time jobs alongside their course so time management skills are critical for a student’s success. As online class facilities can be availed from the home, laziness and procrastination can also set in so the students need to plan for the online classes so that they can maintain a perfect balance between their study and work. They should also take prior notes about the syllabus, exams, assignments due date so that they can be well prepared. It is better to print a hard copy of all the notes to refer to throughout the year.

Communication and resolving queries: Students need to be vocal while taking online classes. They must ask their professors and instructors if they have any queries related to any topic or assignments. Also, they should be in constant touch with classmates to ensure that they are not missing anything related to the course or program. Daily communication with the professors and classmates will help students to be up to date with their courses.

These are the very important skills required to be a successful online learner so that they can move forward with their courses or programs even during these deadly pandemic times.
